About
Anne Kolbe’s work moves between performance, installation, and sound, exploring how bodies, spaces, and objects negotiate with one another. She often reworks the near-at-hand furnishings of daily life and its domestic structures into performative elements. She works through questions of relation: between bodies of different capacities (both human and non-human), across spaces and through the messy logic of material entanglement, alongside textural tackiness. In her work, camouflage tends to slip, leaving only the outline of a desire that knows it won’t hold. Kolbe seeks to fold this failure into form, softening it into something stranger.
Anne Kolbe graduated in 2013 from the Fine Art program at Sint Joost ‘s-Hertogenbosch, followed by a Master of Fine Art at Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam in 2018. She also has a background in language, literature and education. Alongside her artistic practice, she teaches, writes, and runs SCHANDE, a local art scene gossip magazine. At times, she curates and organizes performance events, and climbs the stage to play with sound. Her practice is currently supported by the Mondriaan Fund.
